Accessibility
The Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) legislated equal access to facilities. It is essential that facilities that provide services to the general public have a pre-planned procedure for evacuation of the disabled. People with disabilities frequently have additional needs and challenges when considering how to handle an emergency situation.
More information can be found at the Disability Resource Office Website
All students should complete a University Housing Application and request any accommodations through the Disability Resource Office (DRO) as early as possible. Disability Resource Office will notify the student and University Housing of an approved accommodation.
Areas of rescue assistance are areas which have direct access to an exit, where people who are unable to use stairs may remain temporarily in safety to await further instructions or assistance during emergency conditions. These areas should be clearly marked and identified to persons with disabilities that might limit their ability to use emergency routes unassisted.
